The book delves into Puerto Rican visibility, cultural impact and identity formation in the United States and Puerto Rico through cultural icons and artistic works of the last century. January - March 2004 Frances Negrón-Muntaner and Bienvenida Matías's documentary For The Record: Guam in WWII received funds from ITVS (the Independent Television Service). Guam's relationship to the United States is explored through the story of a young priest who protects an American radioman from the Japanese. September 2003 Frances Negrón-Muntaner's Brincando El Charco screened at the Nuyorican Film Festival Retrospective at El Museo del Barrio in New York in July. The 1994 narrative film follows a photographer's journey into what it means to be Puerto Rican, gay and an artist. Interview How do you approach the beginning of a project? I don't approach projects, they approach me. Then it's like falling in love with a difficult person. You know it will be tough but you can't help it. |
