Frances Negrón-Muntaner's book, Boricua Pop: Puerto Ricans and the Latinization of American Culture was recently published by New York University Press. The book delves into Puerto Rican visibility, cultural impact and identity formation in the United States and Puerto Rico through cultural icons and artistic works of the last century.
January - March 2004
Frances Negrón-Muntaner and Bienvenida Matías's documentary For The Record: Guam in WWII received funds from ITVS (the Independent Television Service). Guam's relationship to the United States is explored through the story of a young priest who protects an American radioman from the Japanese.
September 2003
Frances Negrón-Muntaner's Brincando El Charco screened at the Nuyorican Film Festival Retrospective at El Museo del Barrio in New York in July. The 1994 narrative film follows a photographer's journey into what it means to be Puerto Rican, gay and an artist.

How do you approach the beginning of a project?

I don't approach projects, they approach me. Then it's like falling in love with a difficult person. You know it will be tough but you can't help it.
