Accomplishments
Carlos Carrera created his first film in Super 8 at the age of 13. He worked as an assistant director in theater and as an illustrator and sketch artist in the press and film before directing his own films. His work has been screened at numerous film festivals around the world, among them Amiens, Trieste, Toronto and Sundance. His short animated film El héroe won the Palme d’Or for Best Short Film at Cannes. El crimen del Padre Amaro was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Film category. He has received several Ariels (including Best Screenplay, Best Film and Best Director) and the Coral Award at the Havana Film Festival, among other honors. Carrera studied communications at the Universidad Iberoamericana and film at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC).

Carlos Carrera’s recent animated short about intolerance De raiz | From the Roots screened at the Guadalajara Film Festival in March.  The festival also featured another animated film by Carrera, Malayerba Nunca Muerde | Weed, in which a city-dweller cuts off a policeman’s ear to use as a trophy.  Mexico
