Promises (2002, co-director) Bajo California, el límite del tiempo | Bajo California: The Limit of Time (1998) Xochicalco: piedras y nubes | Xochicalco: Stones and Clouds (1995) Ritos | Rites (1994) Accomplishments Carlos Bolado worked primarily as an editor and sound recorder until 1994, when his short film Ritos (Rites) earned him a Young Artists Fellowship from FONCA (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes). His debut feature film Bajo California received seven Ariel Awards, including Best Film and Best First Film, among other prizes and honors. Promises, a documentary he co-directed with B.Z. Goldberg and Justine Shapiro, was nominated for an Academy Award in 2002. Among Bolados editing credits are the films Como agua para chocolate (Like Water for Chocolate) and Amores perros. Bolado studied film at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC), and is part of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (SNCA).

October - November 2006 Carlos Bolados narrative feature Sólo Dios sabe | God Only Knows, in which a young Brazilian art student crosses paths with a Mexican journalist and sparks a cascade of events across both Mexico and Brazil, screened at both the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival in October. Interview Have you (ever) transitioned to another medium or genre? What was the impetus and experience and how did it effect your original discipline? I tried with no success to play music but I know at least it helped me awaken a forgotten part of my brain. Very Important. |
