She received the Lumiere Award from the New Orleans Film and Video Festival, Best Animation at the Calgary CSIF $100 Film Festival and the Futuroscope Award from the North Carolina Film and Video Festival. A founding member of the New Orleans Film Collective, she teaches animation and handcrafted film workshops in the U.S. and Canada.

footage and story was showcased in Cleveland
Street Gap,
a short film by Courtney Egan which was awarded a Director's Choice
Prize by the 27th Black Maria Film Festival. Egan provides a
reflexive vignette of the house in New Orleans which Hill shared with
her family. Egan overlays double exposures combining water-damaged
footage found in the house after Hurricane Katrina with her own new
color footage to create a poignant eulogy to Hill, who was murdered in

Helen Hill was memorialized with a tribute show at
the Orphans

Film Symposium, held at New York University, in March.
Several of her
restored animated shorts, as well as her home movie footage were shown.
The Helen Hill Award was presented, providing funding for filmmakers to
travel to the symposium to show their work. Hill’s footage
and
story is also showcased in Cleveland Street Gap, a
short film by
Courtney Egan which was awarded a Director's Choice Prize by the Black
Maria Film Festival and is included in the festival's
nationwide
tour. Egan provides a reflexive vignette of the house in New

Winger Makes a Film, which instructs the audience on
inexpensive ways
to make films, including hand processing and direct animation. July, August, September 2007 Helen Hill was honored posthumously when her short
animated films were screened in the Madcat
Women’s International Film Festival and the Ottawa
International Animation Festival. The program Renewable
Resources, in the Scanners festival in July was dedicated to
Hill as well. Hill left her mark in the hearts of many
students and audiences across North America, from Nova Scotia to New
Orleans, with her warmth, generosity and magical hand-processed films. |
